New Greenhouse Open

We opened the greenhouse in October and have been rapidly filling it with microgreens.  The last remaining task is to get the heat turned on which is scheduled for next week.  We have continued growing our microgreen mix and basil through the transition.  Now that the new greenhouse is open, we have added several new products.  Micro carrot, micro fennel, and sugar pea  are all coming along nicely.  The sugar peas are available for sale starting this week.  These will be posted to our products page shortly.  The recent cold evening temperatures have slowed down basil production, but will catch back up soon.

Greenhouse Construction Underway

greenhouseMany thanks to all the volunteers who came out to help with the greenhouse construction.  August is definitely not the best time to start building a greenhouse.  The last greenhouse went up in December and that was much easier.  Our volunteers were troopers and braved the heat.  Thankfully, everyone was willing to start early each day and we called it quits by lunchtime.   Lunch was catered by JB's Smokeshack on Johns Island which helped to take away some of the pain.  Overall stretching the plastic is the hardest part.

Special thanks to my husband, Tim, without his support and hard work this project would not be possible.  Thank you very much.

Utility Building Arrives

setting itThe shipping container that will serve as our main utility building arrived and was set on August 2.  Not quite as dramatic as an old fashioned barn raising but we will save that party for the greenhouse.

Live trays or Clam Shells?

Live Trayslive tray2

Our live trays are micros grown in soil on a  10x21" tray.  These trays are delivered with the mircos alive and growing until they are cut and used. A tray requires minimal care, water only as necessary and standard kitchen lighting.

The first greens harvested are as fresh and tasty as the last.   Each tray yields approximately 4 oz of micros.

Clam Shells

clamshellClam shells are standard 4 oz. containers of with our micro green mix cut the day before delivery.

Mowing and cleaning at new location

grass mowed

It's official.  Our lease has begun and it is time to get to work on the new facility.  We started by mowing  the grass and clearing out small trees. It's hard to believe that after a year and a half of planning we are finally starting to build.   Next comes the utility building.
